Elective (3 hours)
This virtual class will introduce you to the amazing diversity of mushrooms and the basic techniques of mushroom identification. The first part of this class will focus on the basics of collecting and identifying mushrooms. We will also cover the characteristics that distinguish common families. After a brief Q & A session, the second part of class will turn to a seasonally appropriate topic. With the approach of Halloween, a holiday associated with superstition and magic, we will touch upon some fascinating aspects of particular mushrooms that have an association with the supernatural.
Whether you're interested in foraging for edible mushrooms, or just want to be able to appreciate the diversity of fleshy fungi, you will come away with knowledge to demystify mushroom identification.
