Fall in love with Nettles!
As we come out of our Winter Slumber and stretch out into the Spring. The nettle is an incredible, valuable and nutritious plant to help us wake up and take this 2023 with a Spring in our step! We have this incredible natural resource, The Stinging Nettle (Urtica Dioica) at hand, that grows with great abundance and contains vitamins and minerals to nourish us. We really wanted to take some time out to honour it, harvest it and enjoy what it has to offer and share this with you!
We would love to invite you to come and spend a day with us on Newhouse Farm, Staffordshire and forage some spring greens, mainly nettles from 60 year organic land. We will look at processing and preserving the nettles.
This is a hands on Day, after a walk, we will create a Nettle sauerkraut and a kimchi for you to take home. We will demonstrate and explore other ferment processes to look at like Nettle beer, Nettle Kombucha and ways to preserve nettles, like freezing, drying, cordial, creating foods like gomasio, cooking and making nettle tea. We will share some history and folklore surrounding this amazing plant while we prep food together.
During the day we will sit down together for a lunch show casing what we can create with these incredible nutritious plants! By the end of the day we hope you have a full belly, a developing love and respect for this amazing plant, learnt some fermentation skills and look forward to some great fermenting foods!
You will need wear wellies or walking boots/shoes, warm clothes, a basket or bag, gloves and some secuteurs or scissors and please advise with booking on any food intolerances or allergies.
