Easter Camp in Wicklow
Spring is here and its time to dust off your tent and join the Wild Women for a rejuvenating 3-night camping trip to the stunning forests and mountains of Wicklow. Get ready for an adventure featuring waterfalls, river swimming, hiking, bushcraft, campfire cookery and even a woodland sauna!
We will be staying at the beautiful Tipi Adventures site near Rathdrum, just 20 minutes drive from Glendalough. This is a nearly wild woodland campsite away from roads and bright lights, on the shores of the Avonmore river. We will be camping in the trees, a short walk from the carpark and there are compost toilets and a tap for water within walking distance. A communal kitchen will be set up under tarps and we will be cooking over the fire as there is no electricity. You will need to bring your own small tent (2-3 person), a sleeping mat and 3 season sleeping bag. Tents and bush hammocks can be borrowed if needed, or you can hire a tree tent from Tipi Adventures at an extra cost.
We arrive on Saturday afternoon to set up camp and explore the woodland. In the evening, we will cook dinner together over the campfire and get to know each other. After dinner we will discuss the options available for our hike/walk on Sunday. Karen will be leading a more strenuous hike up to the Spinc viewpoint, or you can choose a gentler walk along the miners path or the lower lake to the renowned 6th century monastic site of Glendalough.
Sunday morning after breakfast, we will make a picnic lunch and car share to Glendalough for our day of walking and exploring this beautiful valley. On our way home, we will stop at a restaurant in Rathdrum for dinner (extra cost)
On Monday morning we will have a bushcraft session with Ed from Tipi Adventures, then after lunch we’ll head to Glenmalure valley and Coolalingo waterfall for an optional swim and maybe another hike if wanted. In the late afternoon we head back to our campsite for a warming woodland sauna and dip in the river beside our campsite. On our last evening, we will cook dinner together over the campfire.
Tuesday morning we break camp and head home, with an optional stop at Victor’s Way Sculpture garden (additional cost of 10 euro). It is a curious space with interesting sculptures and an ideal setting to reflect and unwind after our busy weekend.
