Folk On The Edge - Beating the Bounds
Sun 28 Apr 2024 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Minions, Liskeard, PL14 5LL
Description
Join us to explore the unique landscapes of the Cornish Borderlands and begin to unlock some of the folklore hidden within them. Beating the Bounds is a traditional custom where, once a year, communities walked the boundary of their parish and created a shared mental map of home. Each walk will be led by poet and historian Mark Camp and will vary in length and difficulty.
For this walk we're heading to the moor. Staring at the Minions car park, we’ll walk across the moor via the hurlers standing stones to Daniels Gumb’s Tomb then up to the Cheesewring and Stowe hill before heading out to Henwood and returning through the trees to the moor and mine workings. We will then head to the Crow’s Nest for a debrief. Please bring along your own picnic lunch for the debrief if you wish to.
We encourage participants to come with cameras to document the trip, but ask you to leave dogs at home. You are welcome to sign up for both walks or just one.
