Folk On The Edge Workshops - Folk Songwriting with Josh Bowker
Fri 24 May 2024 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Liskeard Library, PL14 6AB
Description
Join songwriter Josh Bowker as he teaches the tools of creating a song rooted in folk tradition that speaks to contemporary issues. The workshop is open to all levels of experience and each participant will come away having created a brand new folk song.
Josh Bowker (The Longest Johns, Bowker & Morse) is a skilled songwriter and a professional member of the Ivors Academy, whose songs have gained worldwide recognition and millions of plays on Spotify and YouTube. His emphasis is strongly on creating songs rooted in the folk tradition but with plenty to say to a contemporary audience. He believes the natural world is a natural bridge between the two, so much of his work focuses on nature as allegory, as well as simple beauty to be admired. His workshops have been greatly appreciated on a basic ‘unlocking songwriting’ level and a more advanced ‘unblocking the writer’s block’ level too.
This project is part of the Hello Stranger programme led by Wildworks and is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
