Folk On The Edge Workshops - Folk Costume with Sam Horton
Fri 31 May 2024 2:00 PM - 4:30 PM
Patchwork Studios, PL10 1LA
Description
We will explore folk costume through history, looking at the symbolism and purpose of several garments, talking about the context each costume was seen in and the importance of mythmaking and character when designer in a folk setting.
After this, we’ll work in groups to develop a paper costume, creating striking and powerful silhouettes to inform the story we want to tell with our garment.
Finally, we’ll look at costume in the mumming tradition, and use found material to embellish existing garments for use in a contemporary mummer’s play.
This project is part of the Hello Stranger programme led by Wildworks and is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
