Liam O Maonlai gained international acclaim as lead singer of hothouse flowers. With them he travelled across the world. He was born and raised in Dublin, where his father taught him to sing as he was learning to speak. There was a piano in the house and on it he developed a deep relationship with music. At sixteen he won an all Ireland final playing Bodhrán, and he has won awards for set dancing and for a blues band called an Fonn Tonn, the band went on to become hothouse flowers . His foundation in traditional music is his guiding star.
‘traditional music is recognised by traditional musicians no matter where they come from.’
Saolaíodh Liam Ó Maonlaí i mBaile Átha Cliaith. Tóigeadh le Gaeilge é.
Bunús dá shaol cruthaitheach is ea an teanga agus an chultúr dúchasach. Is uaidh a thagann gach saghas ceol agus is é a chothaíonn muid sa saol seo. Tá sé ag canadh agus ag déanamh ceoil go proifisiúnta le daichead bliain.
