🎻Bellot Ensemble
A vibrant and exciting period instrument ensemble, Bellot Ensemble is known for its energetic performances and fresh approach to 17th-century music. The group has recently been selected as a New Generation Baroque Ensemble, a prestigious scheme led by BBC Radio 3, the Royal College of Music and the National Centre for Early Music.
Their programme, Grounds for Exchange, explores the musical conversation between Italy and England in the 17th century, centred around the captivating idea of the ground bass. Featuring composers such as Claudio Monteverdi and Henry Purcell, the music moves between expressive Italian flair and the rich, reflective sound-world of English Baroque music.
Don’t be put off if this sounds unfamiliar – the ensemble brings the music to life with engaging introductions, making it easy to follow and enjoy. Expect a wonderfully varied performance, full of character, featuring unusual and beautiful instruments including the theorbo and viola da gamba, and a programme that is both accessible and full of discovery.
