Muslims Walk, Listen, Talk ~ Brighton
Reflections in Nature for Muslims and Friends
At this gathering, inshaAllah, WiN invites kindred spirits to gather in nature to walk, listen, talk and eat together.
The walk itself is about 3-4 miles length, and relatively flat.
Connecting with Each Other and the Earth
“The sun and the moon follow their calculated courses;
And the plants and the trees both prostrate in adoration.
He has raised up the sky, and He has set the balance...”
(Qur' an 55:5-8)

Format
Be enriched as you connect with the land and fellow souls, walking together in nature. The intention is to nurture our minds, body, and our soul. There may be gentle, facilitated conversation to reflect and share as we wish, supporting us to go deeper.
As we have the available option of conversing, there may also be a short portion of the walk in collective silence. We'll also have a picnic at the end where you'll get further opportunities to chat and connect informally with fellow participants. (Please bring food! See below for items to bring).

Meeting Time: Arrive by 11.15am, for an 11.30am prompt start.
Make sure to check train/bus times in advance, to help with your own planning and in case of any potential disruptions. Click here for Brighton and Hove Buses Journey Planner
End time: We anticipate the walk and picnic formally ending at 2.45pm. (You will still be most welcome to hang out in the park beyond this time if you wish).
For Who: This event is intended for adults keen to connect meaningfully with nature and each other. We welcome those interested in cultivating conscious collaborative communities at this time of fragmentation and ecological and social crises. On this occasion, the event is open to adults only, with potential activities to include families in the future, insha Allah. To connect with each other and our surroundings more deeply, we will also ask participants to unplug and switch devices off for the bulk of the event. The event is for those able and willing to do this.
You may live in or near Brighton, or you may like to come down for the day to participate in this rich gathering.
This event is open to Muslims and adults of any faith and belief with whom the event resonates.
Registration: There are limited places for this event, please register in advance to ensure your space on the walk. Arrivals without registration do so knowing that the event may be full, and they may be turned away.
Fee: The event is Free / Pay as you feel (with suggested donations and free ticket options). If you can afford more, please give more to support, sustain and help grow our work. (We do not receive grant funding). If you can only give less, please give less.
Weather: The event will go ahead even if there is light rain, so please dress appropriately and bring what you need to be comfortable. If the weather is more challenging, we may adapt/shorten the walk route and take shelter in a local cafe where conversations can continue.
Terrain: The park is a mixture of grass and woodland, with slight slopes. We will also be walking in part on pavement next to a road. In total it is a relatively short walk of 3-4 miles. When we finish, we will have the picnic.
Toilets: There are no public toilets on the walk route (including none at Preston Park train station). The plan in progress is that we intend to walk to and in Withdean Park. We are looking at ending the walk in Preston Park for the picnic. There are public toilets in Preston Park.
What to bring:
- Your own lunch/water, plus any snacks
- Plates, cups, utensils you will need
- A light, appropriate sheet layer to sit on in case of wet ground
- Clothing: Bring layers and anything you need for comfort. We suggest bringing waterproofs in case of rain, as well as sun protection/sun-hat if needed

Photos: We will take occasional photos / videos which may be used for future publicity. By attending the event you are agreeing to this.
In the event of cancellation (See also 'Weather' note above): Please check your email the day before the event. In the event of particularly challenging weather being expected, we aim to let you know by 2pm the day before whether the event is going ahead. If cancelled, we plan to re-schedule the event for two weeks later: on Sunday September 4th at the same place and time. We will offer refunds (minus any transaction fees beyond our control) for those who inform us soon after cancellation/announcement of new date plan that they will not be attending the rescheduled event.
