Visit Willow and Lore working heritage farm in the Antrim hills, inspired by the typical smallholdings that would have serviced the local iron ore mining industry 150 years ago.
Flax, oats and potato crops will all be at various stages of harvest. You will get a tour around the farm, learn about the importance of these crops at that time, the viability and sustainability of growing and harvesting them in this way today and you will get an opportunity to get hands on with some some of the traditional harvest tasks such as pulling flax or threshing oats.
You will also get a short talk on the iron ore mining industry heritage of the area and learn about what we are doing to preserve and promote that heritage with an annual furnace festival where ore from the hills is smelted in iron age era mud furnaces. You will get to see a furnace and learn about this process
