Equipment Making Workshop
Sat 1 Feb 2025 11:00 - 15:00
Necton Community Centre, PE37 8EH
Description
Beekeeping suppliers typically charge over £100 extra for hives to be built for you, so save some money by learning how to make your own equipment from flatpacks!
The WNKLBA team of experienced hive-builders will be running a workshop at Necton Community Centre on Saturday 1st February.
If you wish, you can bring along your own flatpacks and we will help you assemble everything correctly. This is the best time of year to buy as many suppliers have winter sales. For anyone starting out, we recommend National hives, and the budget or 2nd quality are usually quite adequate. Some suggestions include:
Bees on a Budget hives from Thornes ( https://www.thorne.co.uk/hives-and-bees/bees-on-a-budget/bees-on-a-budget-hives/bees-on-a-budget-the-national-hive-flat-or-assembled.html )
Maisemore Rock-Bottom hives (https://bees-online.co.uk/product/national-rock-bottom-hive/) (also frames currently on offer at very good prices)
Abelo cedar flat-pack (https://www.abelo.co.uk/shop/national-hive/national-hive-cedar/national-hive-with-flat-roof-cedar/) .
And, of course, if you decide to treat yourself to a top-quality WBC, that's fine too!
If you do not want or need to make equipment at the present time you are still most welcome to come along for a day of bee-chat and practice making up equipment for the apiary.
This is a free event for WNKLBA members but if you wish to make some equipment for yourself you will need to order it in time for delivery to you before 1st Feb so you can bring your flatpacks along.
Please bring:
Your own flatpack equipment, if you wish (does not have to be hives - even just frames if you like) and nails;
A packed lunch (tea & coffee will be served );
Any woodwork equipment you have, eg hammer, set square etc.
We hope to see you there!
