WIT Presents: Acting for Improvisers (1) with Lisa Lynn.
This is a 6-week course, culminating in a show, created and led by Lisa Lynn, a professional, award-winning actress and teacher. It is an invaluable toolkit for improvisers who didn't know they were going to love performing so much, and who are now finding themselves wanting to be on stage more and more often but struggling to make their work look and feel 'professional', 'slick' and 'just in that other league' (I quote some of you WITTIES directly). Lisa condenses 3 years of Drama School into two 6-week training courses. This is the first part (1) of her two (2) part programme. In Acting for Improvisers (1), you will cover the following topics:
1) Staging
Learn the correct names for the different parts of the stage, how to use the space effectively, and how to avoid unintentionally turning your back on the audience
2) Physicality
Learn to use levels, proxemics and mime to tell stories without words
3) Voice
Learn to take complete control of what your voice communicates when you do speak. We’ll cover safe vocal projection, enunciation, diction, inflection, accents and pace
4) Mime and Support Work
Learn physical techniques for creating distinctive characters and how to help keep scenes alive with space work without drawing focus
5) Subtext and Truth
Learn how to connect truthfully with your characters, to believe in their wants and desires, and how to 'act' without looking like you're trying to
