Description
THE BEST HIGHLINE FESTIVAL! READ ON:
Come on ladies, women, girls and non-binary folk, it's another year for YOU! Highlines, Czech beer/food, and accommodation at the iconic Pod Cisarem campsite, highlines, musical jam sessions, lowlines and more. This is a beginner, intermediate and experienced highliner event. There is always at least one small line for beginners, a more advanced length such as 30-50m, and a 96 meter line! Last few festivals we had 6 highlines from 12m-96m, and this year should be the same or more. Bring your gear if you want to rig more lines! All lines are rigged naturally without the use of bolts by slinging towers with 10m-30m of spansets, so please bring as many spansets as you can.
Saturday Night "Boulder-The-Table" competition with prizes! This is a tradition of the WHM, and requires no previous climbing experience.
TICKETS: 3-day and 5-day tickets will be offered, which includes lodging at the Himmelreich house and access to the highlines. Space is limited, so be sure to get a ticket early as we have a 65-person limit. Volunteers attend for free, however you must confirm with the organizer before selecting a volunteer ticket.
HIGHLINING: You must bring your own harness. Recommended gear includes harness, personal anchor system (i.e. sling and carabiner), hiking shoes, lineslide/hangover. Some of the lines require going up a rope/easy climbing, so if you have a grigri or an ascendor it is recommended as well. Historically attendees of the festival have helped each other access the lines.
LODGING: You do not need to bring a tent, but you DO NEED a sleeping pad and sleeping bag. Attendees will be staying together in a large house called Himmelreich. If you prefer to camp, please bring your own tent. There are limited beds in the house, and they are reserved for volunteers, and after that first come first serve. The house has a kitchen, two bathrooms, two showers. There will be a lot of people in one house, so please be considerate of each other, clean up after yourself, and utilize the campsite next door for additional bathrooms and showers. The campsite has showers, laundry, sinks and a kitchen. There is also a pub/restaurant on location serving Czech food.
The Himmelreich House is open from August 30th at 12PM for volunteers and attendees, until September 5th at 10am. You MUST be completely out of the house by 10am on September 5th because there is a private reservation that will be moving in that day. If you are planning to come earlier and//or stay later than the dates of the festival, you will need to camp at the campsite Pod Cisarem so please bring a tent. Volunteers coming early/staying late for rigging will have lodging.
If you would like to book your own room, there are rooms for rent above the pub. For more information about the campsite, visit this website: https://www.podcisarem.cz/cs/
GETTING THERE: Please visit https://idos.idnes.cz/en/vlakyautobusymhdvse/spojeni/ to look up public transportation. Easiest way to Ostrov aside from renting a car is to fly to Prague, take the Airport Express bus to the Praha Hl.n train station, then take a train to Usti Nad Labem Hl.n, then get the bus 452 to Tisa. You'll want to get out of the bus at the stop Tisa rozc. Sneznik. From there you can walk to Ostrov through the forest (look for trail signs once you get to the Turisticka Hatka 5 minutes from the bus stop in the direction of Ostrov). You can also hitchhike pretty easily the last 5km if you stay on the road. It takes some desire to get to the dead end road where Ostrov is located, but it is a worthy adventure and one you will not soon forget!
There are no grocery stores in Ostrov, so come prepared. The nearest bus stop is in Tisa, 5km away. It's usually easy to hitchhike the last 5km to camp, however you can also walk through the forest for 30-45 minutes. The closest groceries can be found in Usti Nad Labem or Decin. While the restaurant has great options for food, it is wise to bring your own snacks.
There are multiple "Ostrov's" in Czech Republic, so please use the address below if you are searching on google. People have driven to the wrong Ostrov in years past!

INFORMATION, MAPS, VOLUNTEERING: http://womenshighlinemeeting.com/ and https://www.facebook.com/womenshighlinemeetings
VOLUNTEERING must be coordinated beforehand. Please send a message via instagram (@womenshighlinemeeting) to discuss volunteer positions, as they are limited and the primary purpose is for riggers, knot-checkers and film team. If you sign up as a volunteer without prior approval, your ticket might be canceled and you could be denied entry/be forced to buy a full price ticket at the door. Anyone who brings a highline setup that is pre-arranged and used for the festival can choose a free volunteer ticket.
WORKSHOPS: As a solo-organized event, Faith cannot orchestrate workshops but invites anyone to provide a workshop if they feel inclined. There will be a whiteboard to write your workshop subject and time in the Himmelreich house. In past years workshops have included dance-movement, yoga, rigging, stick n' poke tattoos, and more. Feel encouraged to share your unique knowledge with others, but please plan it independently!
CANCELLATIONS: If you cancel your ticket prior to the event, you will receive a refund however it will be MINUS the service fee that Ticket Tailor charges on each ticket sale, which cannot be refunded. Refunds after the date of the event are not possible. Please try to cancel your trip 2 weeks or more before the festival so that we know how many tickets are available.
A friendly reminder: Faith Dickey has single-handedly organized this festival for over 14 years. It is a lot of work for one person, and relies on (often last minute) volunteers to help install highlines and add gear. There is a limit to what one person can organize, so things like workshops, rideshare groups, connections with other attendees, etc. are out of the scope of what Faith has time for. Please understand that this is a not-for-profit festival, all the funds collected are used to operate the event, and that the primary objective is to facilitate a space for women to highline together, meet each other, and experience the incredible place that is Ostrov. It is not perfect, but every year has had an incredible atmosphere. The vibe of this festival is peer-to-peer sharing, checking each other's knots, making new friends to highline with, being safe but also cultivating independence. With only one organizer, the structure is a bit freeform, and in that way it's important to arrive at the festival planning to be independent. What is provided for you is the lodging, the lines, and the gathering---and of course the table bouldering competition! Faith will do her best to personally answer any questions, however it is best to utilize the facebook event page to ask questions that past attendees can answer: https://www.facebook.com/events/649284379994283
