Fire-fighting Awareness Day 2025
Fri 20 Jun 2025 9:30 AM - 4:00 PM
Cheshire FRS Training Centre, CW7 2FQ
Description
We know that many professionals working in fire safety don’t have an operational fire-fighting background. This awareness day is an opportunity to get hands-on, practical knowledge about the equipment, protocols and procedures of fire-fighting. For this second event, we'll also be hearing insight from Fire Investigators and from Protection staff.
Together with Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service, we’ve devised five different sessions, each of which will provide delegates with understanding of a particular aspect of Fire Service activities. Groups of 10 delegates will rotate around these stations over the course of the day, learning from operational personnel and gaining a greater understanding of the practicalities and challenges associated with fire-fighting in buildings.
The 5 stations will be:
- Water supplies and fire appliance - see how firefighters obtain water from different sources for firefighting & look at the equipment carried
- High-rise firefighting - understand the challenges of firefighting at height and the equipment used
- Fire investigation - gain some insight into the fire investigation process which occurs post incident
- Fire safety prosecution - hear from the Protection team about a recent prosecution and relevant issues in the case
- Training Centre Command Suite - visit this state-of-the-art training facility where staff are tested on their incident command abilities using computer-generated simulations
We'll then spend some time hearing from the Protection team about Building Regulation consultations and their responses, as well as fire risk assessment shortfalls they regularly see......before we watch firefighters demonstrate how they operate at an incident using the Training Centre's fantastic facilities on site.
Attire: Some of the day will be spent outside on the Training Ground. Please wear appropriate clothing and shoes that you would wear to site and don’t mind getting dirty.
