Tetra Pak Intaglio Printmaking

Discover the art of intaglio in this beginner-friendly, hands-on printmaking workshop! Intaglio is a printmaking method where an image is cut, scratched, or etched below the surface of a "plate."

Using recycled beverage cartons (like milk or juice cartons) as an accessible alternative to traditional intaglio plates, you'll learn to transfer your design, etch, ink, and print. We will cover fundamentals of intaglio printmaking, talk about different methods of engraving and printing, and use drypoint and collagraph techniques.

You're welcome to bring your own drawing or photo to transfer onto your plate. The transfer process involves tracing with firm pressure, which may damage the original, so we recommend bringing a photocopy on regular printer paper or a tracing-paper copy instead. We'll also have a selection of images and stencils available to choose from if you'd rather pick one when you arrive! The maximum printing size is 7.5"x11"

You'll create a finished printing plate and take home 1–3 original prints of your artwork on archival 100% cotton rag paper. We will be using a small portable printmaking press, and info will be shared on how you can create this type of print at home using a pasta-making machine or metal spoon.

All materials are included, and no prior experience is necessary! Registration includes WonderStump exhibit admission, so come early and explore!
