Glandy Cross Wood Open Day
There will be timed tours at 10am and 2pm.

Glandy Cross Wood is a commercial softwood plantation on the Pembrokeshire/Carmarthenshire border which is being managed according to principles of Continuous Cover Forestry.

The site is being restructured through progressive thinning and selective felling, enrichment planting and under-planting, and restocking of areas affected by windthrow and removal of diseased larch. This management aims to transition away from a predominantly even-aged single species woodland, to a diverse and resilient multi species irregular woodland whilst maintaining commercial productivity, and continuously seeking to improve the quality of the timber grown on site.

Come and learn about the journey so far, as well as hearing about Glandy Cross's role as part of a network of sites used to monitor for the presence of the Ips Typographus (8-toothed Spruce Bark Beetle), the abundance and variety of bird life within a woodland managed by CCF, and hopefully an opportunity to see in action some low impact harvesting equipment.
We intend to conduct two tours and it is anticipated that a member of Forest Research's Plant Health team will join us to talk about pests, diseases and the importance of monitoring. We will also be supported by a local ecologist who has been monitoring bird populations within the wood.
Finally the founder of Trainhugger, which is a train booking platform that funds tree planting grants that are administered by the RFS, will be joining us and talking about their work and an enrichment planting project that they funded in Glandy Cross.

Please note:
Parking is available: There is limited parking on site for vehicles with low ground clearance. 4 wheel drives/SUVs should have many more options.
