Description
Visit Great Park, Alder and South Sowdens Woods for a tour and talk
Come to visit a woodland being managed, and talk to Lisa and her woodland management team about how they are managing the woodland.
The site is open for visitors from 10am to 5pm, with guided walks at 11am and 2pm.
The woods are semi-ancient with plantations (PAWS). On the walk Tilhill forestry will describe their management. We have restarted coppicing of sweet chestnut, felled conifers and been replanting. Threats have included eight-toothed spruce beetle, deer, squirrels, and Asiatic hornet.
The woods are considered by Tilhill to have rich diversity of species. Lisa has also been recording birds, butterflies and other wildlife over the past four years.
You can learn more about Lisa's woodland in her Wood Culture articles, <linked here>.
