We will see semi-mature oak, ash, Lawson cypress and sycamore.
The walk also takes in twenty-year-old cherry, chestnut, larch, oak and red cedar which have been high pruned.
Belstone Copse, with 60 year old oak and ash.
Chaffins Copse replanted with sweet chestnut and wild cherry 40 yrs ago at final spacing.
After the woodland walks, there is a short walk up to North Eggardon farm for workshops visits, tea and cake.

We will discuss ash dieback, small scale felling and extraction, conversion and use of variety of timbers including the above. Herb Paris and Twayblade can be seen.
Mappercombe has 20 woods, including eight planted since 1981. Our main aim is to produce quality timber for local use.

The walk will show some trees growing fairly optimally, i.e. with good crowns and clear stems, possibly putting on an inch dbh per year. We will see some good poplar, ash, oak, sycamore, cherry and sweet chestnut.
