Knitted braids are the perfect embellishment for any project to make it just a little more special. The Baltic countries of Latvia and Estonia have many different styles of braids that have added interesting details to mittens, gloves, socks, and sweaters. Learn three different braid types, two colour braided cast on and experiment with colour combinations and directionality.

Students will learn:
• Two colour braided cast on
• Latvian braid: left and right leaning • Hand sewn back stitch steek
• Kihnu vits
• Lateral vikkel braid

SKILL LEVEL:

Intermediate - Students should be comfortable knitting in the round, reading from charts, knitting with 2 colours

MATERIALS:

4mm / US 6 needles for knitting small circumference (Double pointed needles or circular needles for magic loop)

Stitch markers

DK yarn in 3 contrasting colours approx. 20g of each colour
