Description
Saturday 15th June 7pm.
We’d like to invite you to Worlds End Music’s next concert - a fundraising hour of fabulous classical music to raise money to save the spire of St Martin’s! Followed by wine and nibbles, this will be a lovely way to spend your Saturday evening, and every penny will go towards the Spire Appeal, as the musicians are so kindly giving their services for free. To find out more about The Spire Appeal, visit http://www.stmartinchelsfield.org.uk/spire.html or talk to the fantastic Philippa on the evening of the concert - she and others are working tirelessly on this project.
Joining us will be a horde of string players! All musicians are eminent local professional musicians, working at the top of their field. We will have some familiar faces - Gary Ryan on guitar; WEM founder Rebecca Gilliver on cello; the extraordinary husband and wife viola team of Malcolm Johnston and Gillianne Haddow, joined by Gillanne’s ridiculously talented son, Scott Storey, on both violin and viola. (Scott was our young artist way back when he was still at school - he gave a memorable performance of ‘Summer’ from Vivaldi’s The Seasons - now he is blasting a path through music college!) And we are thrilled to introduce to you, Gwenllian Llyr on harp. Gwenllian is a prize-winning harpist and Orpington local who we very much hope will be doing a concert of her own for WEM in the near future. For more information on Worlds End Music and the concert, visit https://worldsendmusic.com/.
Pitting the plucked instruments (guitar and harp) against the instruments using a bow, (violin, viola, cello) we bring you The Pluckers and The Bowers! We promise an entertaining and eclectic hour of music including works by Saint-Saëns, Elgar, Debussy, Esther Mägi and more. Tickets can be booked here, or on the door with cash or card. If you would like to donate a little more to the Spire Appeal, there will be a donation opportunity after the concert. Conversely, with the cost of living crisis, if you would like to come to the concert, but can’t quite manage the ticket price, come along anyway and just pay what you can.
