Cardiac Screening at Wymondham Rugby Club – Let’s Protect Our Young People

Wymondham Rugby Club is proud to be supporting and hosting a life-saving cardiac screening event in partnership with Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).

Ages: 14–35 years old

Why This Matters

CRY’s mission is to identify young people at risk of sudden cardiac death — often caused by undetected heart conditions such as:

• Thickening of the heart muscle
• Structural abnormalities
• Electrical rhythm irregularities

Sport and exercise do not cause cardiac arrest — but intense activity can expose an underlying condition. Screening helps detect issues early and can save lives.

This event forms part of our ongoing commitment to youth wellbeing. Thanks to the Sarah Softley Events, Red & Black Club, Pre-Match Lunch contributions and our Wellbeing Fund, we have been able to subsidise tickets to just £40 per person.

There is also an option to add a £10 voluntary donation, which will go directly back into our club’s Wellbeing Fund to continue supporting initiatives like this.

What Happens at the Screening?

All participants will receive:

• An Electrocardiogram (ECG) – a simple, painless, non-invasive test measuring the heart’s electrical activity (takes just a few minutes).
• Review by a qualified doctor alongside a personal and family history questionnaire.
• If required, a follow-up echocardiogram (ultrasound scan of the heart).
• In rare cases where further investigation is needed, written communication will be sent to the individual’s GP.

Screenings are carried out by qualified cardiac physiologists and medical professionals.
