Yakshadhruva Patla Foundation Europe e.V. : (Preserving Culture | Promoting Art | Empowering Artists  ) 
Yakshagana is a centuries-old traditional theatrical art form originating from the coastal regions of Karnataka, India. The term “Yaksha” means celestial being and “Gana” means music—together, Yakshagana transports audiences to a divine realm of storytelling through dance, live music, dramatic dialogues, and striking visual artistry. The performances are known for their vibrant costumes, elaborate makeup, and compelling dramatization of epic tales from the Mahabharata, Ramayana, and Bhagavatha. This powerful combination of art and expression—performed with live drums, rich vocals, and stylized movements—makes Yakshagana an unforgettable cultural experience. 

Yakshagana was performed for the first time in Germany in 2018, in Frankfurt, under the guidance of Ajeeth Prabhu Thallur, a passionate practitioner and teacher of this art. What started as a small initiative with just two to three artists has now grown into a dedicated community of more than 15 performers under the registered non-profit banner Yakshadhruva Patla Foundation Europe e.V. Our team has since performed in multiple European countries and continues to introduce this rare cultural gem to global audiences.

•Performing and presenting Yakshagana in its original traditional form across European countries.

•Workshops and regular classes are conducted across Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands, both online and offline, with over 15 children and 20+ adults actively learning the art.

•We present Yakshagana Ballet—a format tailored to non-Kannadiga audiences—making the experience more immersive and inclusive.

•We present Yakshagana in German language— Keeping the Music in local original language and dialogues in German to present to German local audience.

•The group has been widely appreciated for its energetic performances, unique storytelling, colourful costumes, and traditional makeup. Performances have often received standing ovations, and more and more people across Europe now follow Yakshagana regularly and actively support efforts to share and preserve the art.

•We’re especially encouraged by the growing interest among European children and multicultural audiences, creating a unique cultural bridge through this traditional Indian form. Preserving Yakshagana abroad is no small feat. Our artists put in 3–4 hours of backstage preparation, and often import handmade costumes from India, some of which weigh up to 15 kilos. Despite these challenges, the team’s dedication is unwavering. Our efforts have been recognized by several major Indian newspapers and television channels, and we remain committed to our mission of keeping this cultural heritage alive and thriving in Europe.
