Norwich Jazz Club are pleased to present London-based trumpeter Steve Fishwick joining forces with New York-based baritone saxophonist Frank Basile and their quintet, as they perform an evening of self-penned compositions mixed together with tunes by the likes of Jimmy Heath, Frank Foster and Hank Mobley - all in the 1950s / 1960’s Hard Bop style. Check them out here
We’re excited to be hosting one of the seven dates for which Frank will be joining the quintet; a brief tour that also includes gigs at top venues such as Piccadilly’s Crazy Coqs, Oliver’s Jazz Bar in Greenwich and Peggy’s Skylight in Nottingham.
Well-established in the music industry, Steve Fishwick has performed with most leading jazz musicians from the the UK, Europe and the US, including Sir John Dankworth, Stan Tracey, the BBC Big Band, the WDR Big Band, Anita O’Day, Ron Carter and Peter Erskine. Also a top jazz educator, he’s principal lecturer of jazz trumpet at Leeds College of Music and a faculty member at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Originally from Illinois but now based in New York, Frank Basile has established himself as one of today’s most in-demand baritone saxophonists, having performed with top combos such as The Bob Mintzer Big Band, The Joe Lovano Nonet, The Count Basie Orchestra and Michael Bublé. Additional to his renown as a ‘prized sideman’, he’s made three recordings as band-leader and headlined at many of New York’s major jazz clubs.
