reEquip // Loving and Leading Staff Teams: a day on people, HR and pastoral care for those in Christian ministry

reEquip is a monthly opportunity for those in pastoral ministry to connect and be taught / encouraged in their ministry positions.

Join us for our March reEquip day with Helen Lamb.

Every ministry leader is, whether they trained for it or not, also a people manager. This day brings together years of HR expertise with a lifetime in church life, to help us lead our staff and volunteer teams with integrity, wisdom and love - understanding who they are, communicating with clarity, and building structures where people flourish.

Schedule:

(you are most welcome to join us for community prayers beforehand at 9am)

9.30am - Meet for coffee/tea and pastries

10:00 am - Brief welcome & devotion

10:15 am - Session 1: Knowing yourself and understanding your team – Introducing a language to help us work more effectively together: motivations, strengths, blind spots and how to handle friction that arises.

11:15 am - Break for coffee/tea

11.45am - Session 2: Structures that let people flourish – how to manage and be manageable: core HR disciplines (roles, objectives, appraisals, wellbeing) that build confidence in fair process, clear expectations and honest conversations.

1pm - Lunch

2pm - Session 3: Practical application: Participants can bring specific questions or situations to discuss, or typical examples will be explored, including how to communicate, delegate, and give feedback that reflects and values our individual differences

3pm - Q&A with a cuppa

3.30pm - Finish

About Helen Lamb (from Kingdom Bank profile)

Helen’s career has been in Human Resources, the first 10 years in financial services working for ABN Amro and RBS, and since 2010 working on a freelance basis to support SMEs. She holds Chartered membership of the CIPD and has a particular interest in helping organisations consider their people challenges strategically. She is an active member of a large, Evangelical church in central Oxford with her husband and two children and also serves on the working group of the Church of England Evangelical Council, the Council of Oak Hill Theological College and as a trustee of Living Out and the Matthew Ministry. When she’s not in meetings, she enjoys time with her teenage children, the family dog and sharing food with friends.

About our reEquip initiative:

The statistics relating to pastoral ministry burn-out is high. Too high.
For many the life of church or para-church ministry can be stressful, busy and, very often, lonely.
The to-do list can be overwhelming and unending, leaving little to no space for any kind of self-study or growth – often we feel out of our depth. Often we feel like calling it quits.

reEquip seeks to support and encourage those in pastoral ministry. Come and:

(1) receive focused teaching and training that will help us in our ministry life, whether in pastoral skills, practical ministry, bible teaching or areas of theology,
(2) enjoy the company of and learn from others in similar situations and
(3) enjoy a delicious lunch together!
