York Open Eco Homes: 1910 mid-terrace (off Bishopthorpe Road)

Visit a home that is better for people and the planet: more comfortable, with lower energy bills and carbon emissions. Learn from the host's experiences and find inspiration for your own home. Please see this page for the list of all homes participating in this annual event - you're welcome to visit more than one!

This is an ongoing renovation project, with the primary aim of reducing carbon emissions. Gas connection has been removed from the home and an air source heat pump installed. This is supplemented with thermal storage which allows the heat pump to be run on a time-of-use tariff and makes it cheaper to run than a gas boiler.

Underfloor heating has been installed where possible, alongside suspended timber floor insulation from hemp/jute. There is novel in-wall heating where underfloor heating wasn’t possible due to solid concrete floors. A mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) system is being installed as the house is renovated.

Booking is essential - you will be asked to choose a tour slot and receive the full home address later. Each tour will last between 30-60 minutes. If you're planning to visit other homes on the same day, please consider how you will travel between them before booking. For more info please contact Ivana via ivana@yorkcommunityenergy.org.uk.

This free event is a collaboration with St Nicks; part of York Environment Festival and York 50+ Festival.
