Clean Rail Power at Hambleton Junction
York Community Energy are exploring a potential community-owned renewables project to supply power to the East Coast Main Line and the Selby Line at Hambleton Junction. Our railways need to transition away from fossil fuels - making them cleaner and less vulnerable to volatile prices linked to the fossil fuel industry. We're working in partnership with Riding Sunbeams, a social enterprise focussed on community solar rail integration, to put communities at the heart of the energy future of our railways.
We believe that renewable energy should be community-owned, and designed hand-in-hand with local communities. At this event, we’ll briefly introduce the project, and then we’ll be asking for your views on what a sustainable future for Hambleton Junction looks like. We want to talk about how you feel about renewables in the local area - the good, the bad, and the ugly. This is your chance to help us make sure that this project is a genuine collaboration, which puts local priorities first.
Free entry, light refreshments provided.
If you’re interested in the project but aren’t able to attend this event, keep an eye on our website for news of another public event taking place in September, or contact us at info@yorkcommunityenergy.org.uk.
This event is part of a project funded by the Great British Energy Community Fund, managed by the North East and Yorkshire Net Zero Hub.
