Intro to energy-saving home upgrades

Is your home cold and damp (or too hot!), or in need of other energy saving upgrades? Join our introductory workshop on making homes comfortable and healthy, without costing the Earth. Illustrated by local examples and a nearby home visit, we will cover the benefits and risks of insulating, as well as switching to low carbon heating and renewable energy. Programme includes:

10am-11:30am Talk and Q&A (accessible venue)

• Presentation on some of the principles of achieving a good home upgrade by Ivana Jakubkova, YCE's Project Officer for Home Upgrade Champions. She is a qualified retrofit assessor and organiser of peer-learning events such as this and the annual York Open Eco Homes. Since 2017 she has also been gradually upgrading her own home in Tang Hall.
• Short presentation on her home improvements by a local Home Upgrade Champion. Elizabeth simply wanted to maintain a good level of home comfort in a more sustainable way. Following a home energy assessment, she's had some insulation and a heat pump installed but there's a lot more to her home, which featured in last year's Open Eco Homes. 

12pm - 1pm Visit to Elizabeth's nearby home (not accessible)

Walking to the home will take around 10 minutes. Elizabeth is one of a number of local homeowners in the Visit a heat pump network - if you cannot attend this event, you can ask questions or arrange a visit for another time that way.

This event is aimed at any York homeowner interested in saving energy through improving their home; booking priority will be given to existing and potential new Home Upgrade Champions - come along if you're interested.

Please note this event will be observed by a researcher from the University of Manchester investigating organisations helping households to save energy and use renewables within the home, and how this is contributing to society’s ability to ‘live well’.
