What do kittens, a local Parish Council in Cheshire and Weetabix have in common?...............
After a long, tender year, we enter the Hebrew month of laughter medicine. And it’s high time for a good laugh. So, join Yelala for a feast of the absurd this Purim, the “if we don’t laugh, we’ll cry” of Jewish festivals.
Purim Shpiel followed by dance party. Fancy dress strongly encouraged. Optional theme: Things that made you laugh in 2021.
NOTE, WE WILL BE CROWD-SOURCING OUR PURIM SHPIEL*. Which means you, YES YOU, are warmly invited to take on a portion of the Purim story, solo or in a team to showcase at the Purim Party. Think Midrash/creative interpretation, stand-up improv, song, drag, poetry, interpretative dance, short film etc. etc... Purim is all about showing up, hiding, trying new things on, so if this idea excites you but you feel a bit nervous, you are in the hands of a very warm, supportive community and we’ll all be laughing with each other. If you’d like to take on a bit, sign up in this google doc: https://docs.google.com/.../1q8m3u-t2yNA2wadH9hR.../edit.... Be in touch if you want shidduching (match-making) to find collaborators by emailing us at hello@yelala.co.uk.
The event will be free, but registration is required in order receive the zoom link. Instead of an entry fee, we will be inviting donations to a charity, TBA.
*What’s a Purim shpiel?! Basically a comic dramatization of the Book of Esther, the central text and narrative that describes what transpired on Purim and why it is celebrated as an important Jewish holiday (Thanks Wikipedia).
