Radical Criminology Talk. Sgwrs Troseddeg Radical
Wed 5 Mar 2025 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Plas Brondanw, LL48 6SW
Description
You are invited to an evening exploring the field of radical criminology with two local academics specialising in the field, Tegwen Haf Parry and Dr Lowri Cunnington, both of the University of Wales.
Tegwen Haf Parry, will introduce the foundational principles of Marxist Criminology. This session will trace its evolution from its 19th-century origins to the present day, highlighting its continued relevance in understanding contemporary social issues. Don’t miss this opportunity to gain valuable insights into how Marxist thought continues to shape criminological theory and practice within the realm of social justice.
Lowri Cunnington will explore Green Criminology as a Radical Criminology and how this critical perspective can be applied to analyse the intersection of environmental harm and the fate of minority languages, like Welsh, in an era of ecological intensification. The same forces driving ecological crises, such as economic growth, are also endangering minority languages and cultures worldwide. From climate-driven displacement to industrialisation's cultural impacts, from a Green Criminological perspective, this talk will explore how the climate crisis can threaten linguistic heritage and what this means for global justice.
This talk will be delivered through the medium of English
