Join us for an evening of short films and discussion curated by filmmakers Django Pinter and Glyn Owen in conversation with broadcaster Christy DeHaven, hosted by Ruth Keggin.

We’ll be watching 5 short short films, all in Celtic languages. The lineup includes Django and Glyn’s award-winning Welsh dark comedy Knackered and the world premiere of Culture Vannin’s new Manx film, Yn Cappan Argid.

After the screening, we’ll have a discussion and Q&A exploring common themes and challenges in Celtic language filmmaking. We’ll talk about tensions between linguistic conservation versus innovation, the complex role of English in Celtic language filmmaking, the distinctly Celtic phenomenon of Back-to-Back filming, and more.

Glyn Owen is a Welsh-speaking writer and performance maker working across theatre, film and cabaret. Django Pinter is a filmmaker and video artist who is learning Welsh and Manx. Christy DeHaven is a broadcaster and Programmes Editor for Manx Radio. Ruth Keggin is a Manx Gaelic singer and Yn Greinneyder / Manx Language Officer for Culture Vannin.
