Kreutz Creek Quads

The Kreutz Creek Quads will be held the fourth Saturday of each month at the Kreutz Creek Library, 66 Walnut Springs Rd., Hellam Township, PA. Each tournament is limited to 50 players, so sign up now to reserve your spot!

Starting March 28, the quads will have a new pricing structure. Prices for open quads will be $20 per player. We will not offer a separate scholastic quads section since most of our scholastic age players prefer to play in the open section. Instead, we are introducing a new Non-Rated section limited to unrated players and USCF members below 1000 in rating. This Non-Rated section is meant to be a fun introduction to competitive play for tournament newbies and to offer a low cost, low stress option for casual players. USCF players under 1000 may choose either the Non-Rated or Open section.

TIME:

Open: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (4 p.m. is the latest the open section tournament will last if rounds start on time. This accounts for players using all of their clock time and taking a 15 minute break between rounds. Most tournaments end before 4 p.m. and the Non-Rated section has a shorter time control for matches, so will end

REGISTRATION:

• 10 – 10:30 a.m. on tournament day for last-minute entries. Please bring cash.
• Must be a member of USCF (United States Chess Federation) to play in Open section. Join USCF now at https://new.uschess.org/join-us-chess.
• Limited to 50 players (30 in Open, 20 in Non-Rated) due to space restrictions, so sign up early!

TOURNAMENT FORMAT:

• Open: Quads (Group of 4 players - each player plays each other player - 3 games total)
• Non-Rated: Quads or Swiss, based on number of players. 

TIME CONTROL:

• Open: G/40; d5 (Players get 40 minutes each, with a 5 second delay for each move)
• Non-Rated: G/20; d5 

ROUNDS:

• Open: Round 1 at 10:45; Round 2 at 12:30; Round 3 at 2:15
• Non-Rated: Round 1 at 10:45; Round 2 at 11:50; Round 3 at 1:30
• Rounds 2 and 3 can start earlier if previous matches are complete and all players in quad agree

ENTRY FEE:

• Open: $20
• Non-Rated: $5

PRIZES:

• Open: $50 to winner (Ties split evenly)
• Non-Rated: It's a SURprize!

No food is available for purchase at the event location, so we suggest packing a lunch. If players use all their clock time, it doesn't leave much time between rounds to drive for a meal. No eating or drinking in the library except for the large tournament room.
