Building Confidence Through Restorative Practice

What changes when we stop doing things for people and start working alongside them?

Core to our values and practice, working with and alongside people is something we’ve done for thirteen years. Linked to the asset-based approach, working restoratively is a movement away from doing things for people. Working with people, supporting people to do things in the way that works for them, increases confidence for people to do things independently in the future.

This workshop will define and break down the approach, and support you to find your way of working restoratively with people.

After facilitating using asset-based approaches, and delivering training to its employees and volunteers, for thirteen years – Your Own Place is bringing this training to you.

What participants have said:

"Attending the session with Your Own Place has helped me think more carefully about how I work with people and how important it is to build confidence, not just give advice or solve problems for someone. It has also made me more aware that people may already know what they need, but barriers like shame, stress, lack of confidence or not knowing how to use the tools available can get in the way."

"The session gave me practical ways to think about supporting people without taking away their independence or ownership."

"One of the activities highlighted an important lesson: even when we think we understand someone's situation based on our own experiences or assumptions, their reality may be very different from what we imagine. Just because we have knowledge of a situation does not mean we fully understand the challenges another person is facing."
