Who we are
We are the Technical Data Policy team within the Data Division and Digital Directorate of the Scottish Government. Our head office is located at Victoria Quay, Leith, Edinburgh EH6 6QQ.
We manage the Better Data Community (Making Data Better, Smarter and More Open), (formerly known as the Data Standards and Open Data Community of Practice). It is a public sector community for those with an interest in improving the quality of the data we collect in the public sector, and how it can be more effectively managed and reused.
Why we need your personal information?
We organise a number of events throughout the year. To help us deliver these events, we will collect the following information when you sign up so we can send you details to join the event and send any outputs following the event:
- Name
- Email address
What is our lawful basis?
The lawful basis being relied on to use your personal information for the delivery of our events is Article 6(1)(a): Consent; ‘the individual has given clear consent for you to process their personal data for a specific purpose’
How will we use your data:
We have signed up to the terms and conditions of the online event company, Ticket Tailor, which will be used to collect your name and email address ahead of the events, to help us send you information about the events.
How long is your data kept
We only keep your personal information for the minimum amount of time necessary which is for a total of 3 months.
What are your rights
You have a right of access to any personal data we hold about you by making a Subject Access Request (SAR).
In addition, if you believe that the data we hold is inaccurate or incomplete you can ask us to update our records by contacting the Data Standards team.

Complaints
If you have concerns about the way we process and handle your personal information, in the first instance you should raise your concerns with our Data Protection Officer by email to DataProtectionOfficer@gov.scot
