BSBI Identifying Sedge & Rushes Workshop
Sat 6 Jun 2020 10:00 AM - 4:30 PM BST
SRUC Barony College, Parkgate, Dumfries, DG1 3NE
Description
SORRY, CANCELLED DUE TO COVID - 19
If you have a good basic knowledge of plant ID (perhaps after attending a BSBI Wildflower Families workshop) but feel somewhat intimidated when it comes to sedges and rushes, this workshop promises to help. We will explain the differences between rushes and sedges and go onto look at some of the 21 most common sedge species you are most likely to come across.
Dr Chris Miles and Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland (BSBI) tutors will offer expert guidance, helpful worksheets, plenty of hands-on study and a practical session in the field in the afternoon.
Further Information
The booklet "Start to Identify Sedges and Rushes", by Faith Anstey, will accompany the workshop and is free to participants (RRP £7.50). The workshop price includes teas & coffees - but not lunch. So you will need to bring a packed lunch. We will send detailed joining instructions nearer the time.
Discount for BSBI Members
If you are getting serious about sedge and rush identification you will enjoy and benefit from BSBI membership. As BSBI members get a 50% discount by quoting their membership number when booking, why not join first, then book your place?!
Other BSBI training events in 2020
We are repeating this workshop on the 13 June at Kinross. There are two Identifying Grasses workshops in the same programme - in Hamilton and Dunkeld respectively. We are also holding a free one-day follow up field meeting at Ben Lawers on the 25 July with the emphasis on grasses, sedges and rushes. Click on the links for further information and to book.
