The Acts

The Magic Beans

event_description_image_278926_1773677944_da9de.png?_a=BAAE6HDQ

With a track record for being intensely intimate and seriously fun-filled, allotment-swing-acoustic trio The Magic Beans have an ear for a quirky cover and the imagination to take it in a completely new direction. Their rootsy originals draw influence from folk, jazz and world music traditions and sit comfortably alongside the eclectic songs that they cover and their unique way of reimagining them.

“The Magic Beans trade in transformation. That is, they distill the essence of unlikely pop songs with just a supple string bass (Matt Owens, the best in the business) and lyrical acoustic guitar (the tasteful Ulrich Elbracht)...The pair interweave seamlessly, and, most important of all, leave lots of room for singer Zoe Kyoti. In this environment, Zoe blossoms like an exotic bloom, and is relaxed, confident, and, not to put too fine a point on it, divine.” (Mike Butler – Dyverse Music)

“Blues, roots, Ratpack-style swing and theatre…An album that shows not only raw musical talent across the genres and innovation in lyrics and melody….. as fun and upbeat as it is solemn and sultry.” (Nickie Shobeiry – Music Muso)

“Uli Elbracht & Matt Owens are self-effacing accompanists: they provide minimal velvet for the jewel of Zoe Kyoti’s voice, which is magical in its smoothness, nuance and tenderness” (MEN)

The Jack Pearce Quintet

event_description_image_278926_1773682182_04dda.jpeg?_a=BAAE6HDQ

Described as “A band about to make its mark on UK Jazz”, The Jack Pearce Quintet  showcases Jack’s original compositions that pay homage to jazz traditions while  injecting a fresh, inventive spirit. A band of Leeds Conservatoire Alumni, the Jack Pearce Quintet focuses on a fusion of melodic and technical excellence.

Drawing influence from Post-bop and 90s New York Swing, the original compositions  have a uniquely open and interactive approach. The bands strength is particularly  apparent in a live setting where countless hours have been dedicated to every facet of the music, then refined on the stage, culminating in an exciting musical experience.

Strong rhythms underpin vibrant, playful melodies creating a fusion complimentary to  both traditional and modern jazz. Coming off the success of their first UK tour, the Jack  Pearce Quintet are quickly building a reputation as a band to watch on the UK jazz scene.

The Marianne McGregor Trio

Marianne McGregor is a powerful voice in UK Jazz, awarded ‘Best Vocalist’ in the Scottish Jazz Awards 2023, Marianne has been delighting sell-out audiences with her impressive voice and scat-singing. Using her voice like an instrument, Marianne sings with tone and sincerity that can both break your heart and mend it all in one performance.

Marianne has self-released three albums, two in 2020 - her debut original album 'Good Morning Warning' and an album of jazz favourites entitled 'Standards'. Her latest original album offering 'Make Believe' was released in June 2025 and was supported by Creative Scotland funding. Marianne writes music autobiographically, describing her life and experiences of love, pain and progress. Whether performing her original music or classic jazz repertoire, Marianne captures audiences attention with playful, exciting phrasing, fearless vocal improvisation and heartfelt delivery that keeps listeners in the palm of her hand.

Sabiá

Sabiá take their name from the national bird of Brazil, the Sabiá-laranjeira. 'Sabiá' is also a composition by the group's biggest influence, Antonio Carlos Jobim.

Formed of established British jazz musicians, they perform Bossa Nova, Brazilian improvised music and well known songs inspired by the style. The band features Rowan Flack on vocals, Bim Williams on guitar, Marcus Penrose on double bass and Chris Nickolls on percussion.

Sabiá is led by violinist, composer and producer Tobie Medland. Tobie has released several records with his project 'The Aviary', their last album release was at Vortex jazz club. He has performed concerts with some of the world's greatest musicians within the jazz-style pioneered by the great Django Reinhardt, including Stochelo Rosenberg, Fapy Lafertin, Olli Soikkeli and Paulus Schäfer. Tobie has also featured at leading European venues including LSO St. Luke's, Crazy Coq's Soho, Pizza Express Live, Leeds Town Hall, Jazzbina Sarajevo and Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club. Tobie has been interviewed on JazzFM, and contributed to Jazz Journal and The Syncopated Times.

Currently Tobie is based in South China, where he is performing as a jazz violinist in a world-leading theatre show. He is also spending his time pursuing nature journalism, finding and photographing rare wildlife in the jungles of South East Asia.

Antonio Carlos Jobim, the father of Bossa Nova, is widely considered Brazil’s greatest composer. His expansive body of work and innovative approach led him to record with and write music for jazz greats including Stan Getz (Getz/Gilberto, an album dedicated to Jobim’s music), Frank Sinatra, and Charlie Byrd. He also released a vast number of recordings which highlighted his globally revered compositions. Some of his most well-known compositions include ‘The Girl From Ipanema’, ‘One Note Samba’ and ‘Desafinado’.
