LOCULUS with aj cornell and anne-f jacques
In a new performance work LOCULUS draws from their research into their own physical impulses and desires to explore ideas of witnessing and embodied listening. With surreal dance breaks and absurd amounts of tin foil, they build a world where time warps and where the strange and uncanny break their way through the surface and then submerge again into the dreamstate that always vibrates beneath what is visible. Body, material, and sound are multiplied, mirrored, and doubled while bits and pieces of pop culture weave their way in and around the piece like snaking black sound cables.
The evening will open with an exploration in aural textures and dynamics by aj cornell and anne-f jacques.
Artist bios:
LOCULUS is the creative platform of Olana Flynn and Madison Palffy--dance makers and performance curators based in Holyoke, MA. Their work is often performed in bars, yards, and houses; responding to site and everyday material, they weave together improvisational structures across movement, sound, and object.

aj cornell and anne-f jacques have interacted across the sonic plane in a sporadic manner for a decade, maybe even two? Based in Portland, ME, AJ employs dense layers of electronic sounds, field recording and other found sounds to create enveloping soundscapes. She composes and designs sound for moving images, and is a member of Le fruit vert. Based in Montreal, QC, anne-f is interested in amplification, oblique interactions between materials and construction of various contraptions and idiosyncratic systems. Her particular focus is on low technology, trivial objects and unpolished sounds. Also a member of a.hop and involved with the label presses précaires.

Free on-street parking is available in Mayo Street Arts’ neighborhood.
There is one paid parking lot conveniently located a six-minute walk from the venue: Top of the Old Port Parking (119 Pearl St, Portland ME 04101)

ACCESSIBILITY
All performances and most other events held at Mayo Street Arts are wheelchair accessible. There are two accessible spots directly in front of our building, however there is not yet a curb cut out at that location.

CANCELATION POLICY
MSA has a no refund policy for all reservations. In the event that MSA is forced to cancel an event due to weather, illness, etc., refunds will be offered via the Ticket Tailor platform.
