Chester Zoo Estate North Recording Day
We're looking for volunteers to help out with wildlife recording on Chester Zoo Estate land. We'll be working in small groups to search for, identify and record native wildlife. Although some knowledge of wildlife would be helpful, you don't need to be an expert to come along.
What you'll be doing
- Looking for wildlife, e.g. bird spotting, searching for invertebrates etc.
- Helping to identify any species found using books and guides or your own knowledge
- Photographing species found to be identified later
- Helping to accurately record this information
*Please note*... this is not a formal workshop or training opportunity, just an opportunity to come along and help out with our surveys in whatever way you can. Although expert knowledge isn't necessary, you'll need to be willing to get stuck in and learn as you go. The recording days are only suitable for ages 18+.
We require all participants to read our risk assessment ahead of the session. On the day, you will then be asked to sign to say that you have read and understood. A link to read the risk assessment will be emailed to you when you book. More information on the exact meeting point and what to bring along etc. will also be sent to you ahead of the event - please do check your spam emails if you've not heard from us!
Please note that you will likely need your own transport for this session - the part of the estate we are going to is not easily accessible by public transport. If you need to come by public transport we recommend attending one of our other sessions instead - you can find a list here (check the individual event details for whether the session is accessible by public transport).
Accessibility: Please be aware that there are no footpaths where we are going, the site has rough ground and the terrain is un-even with talll vegetation. There is a 15 - 20 minute walk from the meeting point to our survey site. This session is unfortunately therefore unlikely to be suitable for anyone with mobility needs. However, please feel free to contact us ahead of the session on info@record-lrc.co.uk or 01244383749 so that we can provide advice on any access needs and session suitability.
The event is organised by RECORD in partnership with Chester Zoo as part of the Networks for Nature Project.
Please make sure you register for this event via Ticket Tailor as there are limited numbers.
Please get in touch with info@record-lrc.co.uk if you have any questions.
