Description
Using a creative lens, this talk will explore ways in which the English legal system marginalises queer parenthood. Through re-writing legal texts and subverting legal language via poetry and music, Katie will offer a different way to experience the law.

The lecture is open to all members of the public, as well as all university students and staff. The lecture and Q&A will be followed by refreshments.

Speaker: Katie Jukes, Senior Lecturer, Manchester Metropolitan University. With SJ Cooper-Knock and Surabhi Shukla, University of Sheffield.
Katie Jukes studied Chinese language and literature at university before becoming a solicitor at an international law firm. She has been teaching law in higher education for nearly two decades and achieved a Distinction in Master of Fine Arts (Poetry) at Manchester Metropolitan University. Katie’s poetry has been published in Paper Swans Press, Broken Sleep Books, Pennine Platform, and she has contributed to a forthcoming publication entitled "Queering Legal Judgments".
