Accountable Tech Summit
Tue Dec 5, 2023 12:30 PM - 6:00 PM
Studio Theater, 1501 14th Street NW Washington, DC 20005
Description
The laws meant to protect Americans online are woefully outdated and under-enforced. Big Tech's business model is explicitly designed to exploit these gaps and generate record profits—all while damaging our information ecosystem, our democracy, and young people’s mental health. The Accountable Tech Summit will bring together policy makers, youth activists, advocates, and researchers from across issue areas and disciplines to build cross-cutting strategies to rein in Big Tech.
Digital society is on the precipice of a new era that will fundamentally change how we interact with one another, exchange information, and engage with our economy. Without new rules governing the conduct of tech giants, our digital future is at risk of being defined by the same problems that have plagued the internet for a generation—only on a much larger scale. The Summit will be a convening to discuss bold new ideas, galvanizing participants to establish a vision for stronger tech policy and a safer, more equitable information ecosystem.
The Accountable Tech Summit will be held on December 5, 2023 in Washington, DC and will feature a session on youth mental health and social media, and a conversation around how we can build a people-powered movement to ensure that advances in AI serve the public interest. Speakers include Senator Cory Booker, CFPB Director Rohit Chopra, White House OSTP Director Arati Prabhakar, and advocate for accountability and transparency in social media Frances Haugen. After the day’s events, there will be an evening reception where attendees can continue the conversations from the day’s sessions and connect with one another.
Accountable Tech’s COVID Protocol
Accountable Tech’s Summit is being held as an in-person event.
The health and safety of all participants is priority at the AT Summit. In organizing this event, we are following the city and CDC guidelines in order to promote a safe experience. Even so, please understand there is an inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 in visiting any public place where there are people. At this time, the current risk in Washington D.C. is low.
We will be providing masks and encourage masking if you are immunocompromised or feel comfortable doing so. We encourage everyone to test within 72 hours before leaving for the event or staying home if you feel sick or are experiencing any symptoms. As well, we recommend guests obtain the most recent COVID vaccine and flu shots. Note that we will not check for test results or vaccination statuses.
We are constantly reviewing and reevaluating protocols as they relate to the current COVID-19 situation. We encourage you to revisit this page prior to traveling to the event.
