Description
Tackling loneliness for a new era of connection: Five years on from the last loneliness strategy, what can we achieve in the next five years?
Date: Wednesday 21 June 2023
Panel discussion: 5pm - 6pm
In 2018, the UK Government appointed the world’s first minister for loneliness and launched its first loneliness strategy. The strategy was based on the work of the Jo Cox Loneliness Commission. This event is timed to coincide with the week of her birthday.
Five years on there has been concerted action by government and all parts of society, as well as a global pandemic that led almost all of us to live in physical isolation and to reflect on the meaning of our relationships.
The aim of this event is to hear from some of the leaders in the field of loneliness and connection as well as to gather ideas from the community of people who care about this issue and how we can tackle loneliness in the next five years.
Speakers:
Sarah O'Grady, Social Affairs Correspondent at Daily Express (Chair)
Kim Leadbeater MP for Batley and Spen and Co-Chair of the APPG on Tackling Loneliness and Connected Communities
Noreena Hertz, Author of The Lonely Century
Please note, this is a hybrid event. Speakers and invited guests will be joining us in person. By registering for this event, you will be able to watch the panel discussion via Zoom.
