Nourishing Communion Afro-Chesapeake Feast
Brought to you by Chesapeake Conjure Society
In collaboration with Our Time Kitchen and Chef/Historian Maynard McMillian https://www.instagram.com/nafasi_catering/. Chef Maynard will lead us in a discussion on the history of Afro-Chesapeake cuisine, along with resident historians of the Chesapeake Conjure Society.
Cooking together in the culinary lineage of James Hemings (progenitor of American Macaroni & Cheese).
We will cook and learn together, before we sit-down to a family style meal in a heated outdoor space.

OPENING CEREMONY
Altar build in honor of James Hemings, intentions for the space and libations for ancestors led by Chesapeake Conjure Society.

COOKING TOGETHER
Chef Maynard will lead the group in a hands-on AfroChesapeake cooking & history lesson, honoring the culinary lineage of James Hemings.

AT 01.30 PM Sit down for a community meal next to a fire pit. Tables
will be set with linens and seasonal centerpieces showcasing Indigo inspired colors and local wildflowers.

TRANSITION
We will take this time to transition from the ceremony space back into the rest of our Sunday as we close out in fellowship
