Queensland Young Lawyers (QYL) and Level Twenty Seven Chambers invite you to join us for our CPD Series. Our CPD Series consists of four relevant and practical topics for young lawyers delivered throughout the year. 

Topic 3: Rules of evidence and affidavit drafting, presented by Rachel De Luchi, Kristi Riedel and Sarah Spottiswood, Level 27 Chambers. 

Rachel De Luchi

Rachel has a combined commercial and public law practice, practising from Level Twenty Seven Chambers.

Her commercial dispute resolution practice covers a wide range of areas and industries, but with a particular focus on building and construction, intellectual property, and media and defamation law. Her specialist expertise in this area is recognised by Australian Financial Review Best Lawyers® who list Rachel as a leading Australian junior counsel in Defamation and Media Law.

She is a versatile advocate, appearing regularly in Federal and State Courts and before a range of tribunals both as sole counsel and led by senior counsel at trials and hearings in civil, review and appeal jurisdictions. Further, she advises and represents clients in alternative dispute resolution processes and acts as Mediator in commercial disputes.

Kristi Riedel 

As an in demand junior counsel practising out of Level Twenty Seven Chambers for insurance, employment, land and defamation matters Kristi is regularly advising, and where needs be appearing in court, for clients in state and federal courts, tribunals and coronial inquests.

She has extensive experience acting for both plaintiffs and institutions in historical child abuse claims and is recommended by Doyle’s Guide and AFR’s Best Lawyers® for professional negligence, financial lines and personal injury claims.

Prior to commencing practice at the Bar, Kristi was a solicitor at a leading national law firm.

Sarah Spottiswood

With a strong track record acting for government departments, public bodies and regulators in public law litigation having worked as a solicitor for the United Kingdom and Australian governments since her admission to practice in 2013, Sarah practices in commercial law and public law.

Her particular experience lies in environment, infrastructure and planning matters from her time at the UK Government Legal Department and secondment at the Australian Government Department for the Environment. She is also well versed in constitutional and administrative law litigation and advising Commonwealth agencies on administrative law and regulatory matters from her time at the Australian Government Solicitor and secondments to the Australian Attorney-General’s Department.

Previously, Sarah was Associate to the Hon. Justice Geoffrey Nettle AC of the High Court of Australia. Following this, she was a Pegasus Trust Scholar at London commercial barristers’ chambers Essex Court Chambers, Erskine Chambers and 3 Hare Court.

The session will be run as a hybrid between in person and online. 

Tickets are free for members of QYL and $10 for non-members. Membership status will be checked prior to the event. If you have registered for a free ticket but are not a current QYL member, you will be issued with an invoice for a non member ticket.
