Bennett Capers is the Stanley D. and Nikki Waxberg Professor of Law at Fordham Law School, where he teaches Evidence, Criminal Law, and Criminal Procedure, and is also the Director of the Center on Race, Law, and Justice. A former federal prosecutor, his academic interests include the relationship between race, gender, technology, and criminal justice, and he is a prolific writer on these topics. His articles and essays have been published or are forthcoming in the California Law Review, Columbia Law Review, Cornell Law Review, Harvard Law Review, Michigan Law Review, Minnesota Law Review, New York University Law Review, and UCLA Law Review, among others. In his article Afrofuturism, Critical Race Theory, and Policing in the Year 2044, Capers analyzes policing issues in the context of Afrofuturism, a cultural aesthetic and philosophy of science and history that explores the intersection of African diaspora culture with technology; and in the context of critical race theory (CRT), a framework that uses critical theory to examine society and culture as they relate to categorizations of race, law, and power.
