A fantastic day of exhibitions, creative workshops, films, talks and DJs followed by a brilliant evening of live music and performance to raise funds towards securing the future of Ron's Place, home of the late Birkenhead artist Ron Gittins, as a place to support and inspire creativity for all.
Languorous local legend Bill Ryder-Jones will kick off the evening's entertainment, followed by 'truth spitter for fence sitters' Beija Flo. Then it's time to get your freak on with 'wonky funk cartoon freaks' Silent K , and Dancing to Architecture who make 'music to dance to, just before dying'.
During the day, step inside iconic Tardis-like gallery on wheels The Caravan Gallery to see photographs of Britain in all its sur/reality, and get yer gladrags on for a portrait by award winning photographer Casey Orr at her Saturday Town pop-up photo studio.
Kids and adults alike are welcome to get busy in our Creative Zone - feel free to bring along anything you'd like to incorporate in a collaged postcard of Birkenhead or our mutant toy totem pole sculpture. You can also get involved in the Underwater Creature Creation Station and Neston High School Maker Space! We'll also be joined by portrait artist Veronica Watson and painter Rob Ellis from Bluecoat's Blue Room, an inclusive arts project for learning disabled and neurodivergent adults.
Our friends from Convenience Gallery will be on site and eager to collect your stories for their Working Class History of Birkenhead project.
The day's film programme will include Patric Rogers and Angelo Madonna‘s film “A Transfigured Movement in Time” to coincide with their upcoming exhibition at the Williamson Art Gallery. Meet filmmaker Martin Wallace and see amazing footage shot inside Ron's Place and extracts from his C4 documentary series 'Journeys Into the Outside with Jarvis Cocker'.
Our compere is Claire Berry and we'll hear uplifting and inspiring stories from spoken word artists Sam Batley and Roy.
We would like to thank Future Yard all the participating artists for their generosity in supporting our Ron's Place campaign. Many artists will have merchandise available to purchase at the event.
Future Yard kitchen will be open for food and drink.
