Developing the concept

Back in July, our Head of Marketing, Olivia, worked on a pitch to win a competition with Channel 4 and B Corp, landing us our first TV ad. The excitement soon turned to “oh, we’ve got to create a TV ad…?!”. Along with our creative agency partners at OCD we went through a creative process that saw us take 10 original concepts before landing on our favourite, “Peace and Pillow Fights”. Over the coming weeks the concept turned into multiple iterations of a story board, script, music selection, artistic direction, reference shots and much more.

Live at the shoot

With the story board and shots nailed down, it was time to bring things to life at the shoot, this time with the help of Racer Pictures.

For the team at Ticket Tailor this was certainly an experience we’ll remember. Seeing the amount of effort that went into the set, styling, makeup and nailing the perfect take was eye opening.

Behind the scenes

Shoot location

The location

The location was a challenge. Initially we wanted to film in a nursing home but with a full day's worth of shooting required, that would be hard. We scoped out cricket clubs, town halls and more before being amazed by the backdrop of Charring Cross Sports Hall.

Preparing the set

Preparing the set

It was an early start with the crew on site from 6am. Lighting, cameras, camera tracks, breakfast, props, styling and a good handful of pillows were all being prepped from the get go. Image: Hopefully OCD have a shot of the shoot being set up with cameras etc

Sandra our Main Character

Our main character, Sandra

Our first shots revolved around our main event creator character, Sandra. Encapsulating the calm and contrasting the businesses of the pillow fight - every detail was considered. The fan, the clock and the perfect drop of a feather into frame.

over 90s pillow fighters

Our over 90 pillow fighters

Our oldest pillow fighter on set was actually 82! Casting the talent here was great fun and they all remarked how it was one of the more quirky shoots they’d been involved in. We’re told Mo, who you see in the mobility scooter is planning an audition for the next Big Brother series so watch this space!

Gymnast flying in air with feathers

The gymnasts

From our initial shot list, we knew we needed a few acrobatic slo mo’s that you see in the final edit and for this, we needed to hire some professionals. One ex gymnast and a stuntman did the job!

crew

The crew

The team behind the 30s made it all happen. We’re not sure the exact numbers on set but it was around 50 in the end. All wonderfully organised and kept on time by our producer Belle. From 6am to 6pm we were in, shot, and out…that’s a wrap!

Post Production

Our Channel 4 ad

Following the shoot there were a series of back and fourths on the edits with refinement around the choice of music, pacing, exactly which shots and takes we’d use and some of the voice overs. Over the course of a few weeks we managed to get the final version which you can watch below
