As early years ESL-educators we are constantly learning new strategies in order to bring rich and creative learning experiences to our young learners. We have brought together 4 different specialists over the course of seven weeks in the hope of offering simple, new ideas or in order to update and refresh familiar classroom activities and teaching techniques.

This course focuses on four main areas:

• Developing emerging language skills (vocabulary and comprehension).
• Physical development.
• Social and emotional development.
• Creative and imaginative play using a variety of teaching aids and techniques.

Each seminar will cover a different theme related to early childhood development in ESL-settings and will be taken by one of four specialist speakers over the duration of seven weeks:

Session 1:

Keynote speaker (Beki Wilson) - Introduction to the course + developing ideas for creative and imaginative play through topics, stories, simple well-loved games and visual prompts.

Session 2:

Guest speaker (John Harrop) – puppetry. This talk includes: different types of puppets to use at home or in the classroom, puppet manipulation tips and tricks, how to introduce your puppet and activities on how to maximise the use of your puppet. Please bring your puppet or a sock to practise!

Session 3:

Guest speaker (Jolly Learning author Sara Wernham) – developing early years literacy through phonics-based activities using the Bumper Book of Phonics Fun (new release) as a guideline, plus ideas for supporting language development and comprehension through visual prompts and simple activities to stimulate creativity!

Session 4:

Guest speaker (Pedro Izuzquiza) – movement and music based with very young learners. Easy peasy songs and activities to help support language development, vocabulary, physical development and pronunciation.

Session 5:

Guest speaker (John Harrop) – more ideas for puppetry!

Session 6:

Keynote speaker (Beki Wilson) – creative and imaginative play for language development, comprehension skills and physical development through adaptable literacy-based activities for young learners.

Session 7:

Shorter Question & Answer session with all speakers using breakout rooms. 

Each seminar will be recorded and participants will have the opportunity to access the recordings for 72 hours after each session is completed. Participants are encouraged to actively engage in each session, hopefully sharing ideas and experiences that may be beneficial for everyone in the group.

At the end of the course, each participant will receive a certificate of attendance and they will be expected to have officially attended at least 5 of the 7 sessions.
