What are Hypopressives?

Hypopressive exercise offers a gentle and holistic approach to enhancing core, pelvic floor & overall health, suitable for individuals of all ages, sizes, shapes, and fitness levels. The Hypopressive method combines rhythmic breathwork with postural holds to engage, coordinate, and strengthen the pelvic floor and core muscles. Before signing up, it's important to review the specific health considerations below.

Hypopressives are used to help with:

  • Back/pelvic pain
  • Misbehaving bladders
  • Prolapse
  • Post-natal recovery including abdominal separation (DRA)

And for better:

  • Breathing
  • Circulation and lymphatics
  • Core and pelvic floor muscle function
  • Digestion
  • Exercise endurance
  • Posture
  • Relaxation & stress management
  • Sleep
  • Sex
  • Tummy tone

Course Format

6 one-hour sessions, from 1pm - 2pm on consecutive Thursdays starting from the 6th March and ending on the 10th of April 2025, at Llangoed Village Hall (back room) LL58 8NY.

What to Expect

To ensure personalised attention and feedback, groups are intentionally kept small, with a maximum of 8 participants.

We will discuss a little of the theory behind Hypopressives, focusing on the core and feminine health. Week by week, we will progressively develop our Hypopressives practice, culminating in you being able to practise a full Level 1 Hypopressive Flow independently. This will involve integrating breathwork with a sequence of postures in standing, kneeling, sitting, and lying positions.

The course format is designed to accommodate individual pacing and address any challenges that may arise along the way.

Do you need special kit?

No fancy gear required, just comfy clothes for easy movement. Light exercise mats will be available for you to use or bring your own mat or blanket if you prefer.

Special Health Considerations for Hypopressives

The Hypopressive apnoea (breath-hold with vacuum) component should not be practised by individuals who are pregnant, or those dealing with;

  • active cancer
  • cardio-respiratory disease
  • uncontrolled blood pressure
  • acute inflammatory gut disorders like Crohn’s Disease
  • recent abdominal surgery

This is beacause, when practising the Hypopressive apnoea technique, the body experiences decreased internal pressures, creating a unique 'vacuum effect'. While this may not be suitable for individuals with the above specific conditions, it will not hinder your enjoyment of other aspects of the exercise.

During booking you will be required to complete a brief health questionnaire so I can tailor the technique to your needs. If uncertain, please seek guidance from your healthcare professional before reserving your spot as I cannot assess your readiness to participate on the day.
