The National Famine Commemoration 2024 takes place at The Green, Edgeworthstown, County Longford, on Sunday, 19 May, 12 - 1pm. This is the State commemoration of the Great Famine (1845-52). Longford County Council is delighted to have been awarded the holding of the event, which is led by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media. Edgeworthstown was the home of Maria Edgeworth (1768-1849), renowned author and educationalist, who was heavily involved in famine relief in the area.
Getting Here: Edgeworthstown sits on the main N4 national route and is also fully serviced by public transport.

Guests are asked to arrive at The Green, Edgeworthstown between 11:00am and 11:20am.
