Learning Objectives

Throughout this course, participants will:

• expand their understanding of their own emotions, learn how to identify and interact with their emotions, and practice cultivating compassion for themselves and others.

• identify and contextualize their power, privilege, and positionality in order to be in right relation with people of less power.

• practice critical introspection on their complicity in upholding white supremacy culture within higher education institutions.

• identify how academia can be an abusive system, especially to people that hold multiple marginalized identities.

• practice enacting solidarity by creating counterspaces that nurture their awareness in order to be in right relation with all mentees.

• apply their skills by demonstrating how they would create an empowering, vulnerable, and conscious space to support mentees of marginalized backgrounds.
