The seventh Scottish International Film Education Conference will take place from Tuesday 11 to Wednesday 12 June 2024. The programme explores diverse perspectives on film education from around the world, and from a variety of perspectives within the process.
This year we offer a special edition of the conference, co-curated by Dr Chris Nunn (University of Birmingham), and it will present a selection of papers from the most recent edition of the Film Education Journal, a special issue which looks at Educating Independent Filmmakers, and is co-edited by Dr Chris Nunn, Dr Rachel Wilson (RMIT University) and Rachel Carter (De Montfort University). This will include talks from Professor Neil Fox and Dr Kingsley Marshall (Falmouth University), filmmaker Mark Jenkin (Bait and Enys Men), Ben Gibson (former head of the London Film School) as well as Dr Jenn Durrett (Bournemouth University), Dr Reina-Marie Loader (Bournemouth University) and Dr Liani Maasorp (University of Cape Town).
In addition we will reflect on 10 years since the publication of Petrie and Stoneman's Educating Film-makers and 11 years since The Education of The Filmmaker books, edited by Mette Hjort. Our discussions will consider the global landscape changes in film education over the past decade, and what the future might look like, and will be led by keynote presentations from Professor Mette Hjort, Professor Duncan Petrie and Professor Rod Stoneman, with some additional speakers still to be confirmed, reflecting on their contributions to the aforementioned books a decade on.
This edition will be presented in a hybrid capacity, with most events taking place in-person at Queen Margaret University, with an option to access proceedings remotely. The event is free to attend.
